During the Cold War, different sorts of media network were sprouting left and right with its own race of technological advancements between neighbors. These new media forms coincided with the breakdown of the different alliances and enmities of the Cold War. This was no different to Tibet. With the changes of technological inventions, the economy market was advancing alongside these changes. However, for Tibet, they had to deal with these changes around the world and the government struggle with their Chinese neighbors. In order to combat one of the conflicts, they had to obtain assistance from other countries to raise awareness of their conflicts.
Since 1989, Tibet supporters outside of the country used networked computers to speak among themselves and also to announce to the media about the struggles happening in Tibet, in the hopes of gaining help from foreign countries. This was their only opportunity in creating a new political space in this contemporary world order. Through these alliances with various nongovernmental organizations, not only were they able to obtain new media outlet, but also raise other news of international importance. In addition, along with new technological inventions comes the western influence that comes alongside it. With this new technological equipment, the Tibetan population was able to understand the concept of the general public having equal opportunity in gaining access to information, something that was not on their minds before. Through this new era for Tibet, the region has proliferated in terms of the country’s own computer conferences and newsletters, such as the World Tibet Network News (WTN) and Tibet Information Network (TIN).
